Our Services

Advocacy

Advocacy work aims at making improvement in child protection legislation, policies and services for the prevention of child abuse. On this long road of advocacy, we believe that every small step will make a huge difference to the life of children. We shall continue working with different stakeholders to cultivate a safer environment for the optimal growth of children. 

 

  • Accept media interviews on various child protection issues. 
  • Conduct questionnaire survey to collect children’s and parents’ views on child protection issues.
  • Hold annual press conference to release information on our significant events, service statistics and recommendations on child protection.
  • Organise Spank Out Day carnival to disseminate the messages of positive parenting and raise public awareness on the importance of stopping the use of corporal punishment on children.
  • Submit position papers to relevant departments or committees
  • Attend committee meetings related to child protection and make recommendations to promote the safety and well-being of children.
  • Organise professional forum and invite professionals from various disciplines to participate in the forum.

Against Child Abuse (ACA) has been at the forefront of child protection advocacy, playing a vital role in promoting mandatory reporting legislation and safeguarding measures in Hong Kong. Since 2018, ACA has proactively raised public awareness, engaged with policymakers, and built momentum for systemic change.

 

Our Key Advocacy Milestones (as of June 2025):

 
Media Outreach:
Over 110 media interviews and features on major TV, radio, and newspapers to raise awareness and shape public opinion.
 
Public Statements:
6 press conferences and 11 position papers submitted to address legal gaps and policy needs.
 
Policy Engagement:
Participated in 5 HKSAR government consultations, including Legislative Council and Commission on Children discussions.
 
Professional Engagement:
Delivered 35 training sessions, forums, and lectures to medical, education, and social work professionals.
 
Expert Participation:
Served on key advisory bodies such as the Committee on Child Abuse and the Mandatory Reporting Consultative Panel.
 
UNCRC Civil Society Report (2024/25):
Provided an independent submission focusing on child abuse, recovery, and reintegration under Articles 19 & 39.

 

ACA continues to advocate for:

  • Establishing child safeguarding policies across institutions
  • Promoting trauma-informed care
  • Enhancing multi-disciplinary collaboration for early intervention and support
